In the Pink

You never get enough of big kid moments. Once you have had one, you want more. It is addictive. It is a feel good drug that has as a side effect, a healthier you, both in body and soul. Nora was at it again. After having climbed mount Kinabalu, trekked to Annapurna Base Camp and Everest Base Camp, ran SCKL marathon, not once but twice, she has now cycled 200km at the Audax Pink Ride 3.0. Kudos Nora!

So, everybody is talking about it, I mean amongst hardcore cyclists. The little hungry girl inside of me said, lets do this. So, I signed up for the Audax Pink Ride 3.0.

The week before the Pink Ride 3.0. I had tested my cycling power by doing a 120km ride from Semenyih to Melaka town. It was rather enjoyable. Infact, in the last 3 months, I have had a significant change of attitude. For every outdoor activity that I went out to do, I have gain so much joy from doing it. No more like complaining, nervousness etc. I was having real fun.

Perhaps it is worth mentioning, in the past three months, I have been able to cycle up both sides of Genting Peras, something that I have never been able to persuade myself to do for a long time. Went to add the Chennah Loop too. Cycled up Cameron Highland for the KOM event, trekked up to the Pinnacles at Mulu National Park, which, they say, once you have done this, the rest of the mountains will be like a walk in rose garden, ran daily when we were on holidays in Bali, yeah you heard me, run whilst on holidays.

So I was feeling fit and ready to go.

The Audax Pink Ride 3.0 is a 200km ride. Female cyclists get to do it for free but must still kayuh herself. The event started at 5am. By 4.30 I was already sweating, nothing to do with nervous attack, but the hotel I was staying at was 2 km away and in between the starting point and the hotel, there was a bit of a climb. Another silly thing was, I had placed the buff on my neck – create such warmth!

In the Pink.

From Nilai we rode in the darkness, it was pleasant ride, cool and the road was still rather free. First checkpoint was at Port Dickson McD. We stopped to have breakfast for 20 minutes or so and then started cycling again heading to Sepang. Not long after we left PD, the skies got dark and the rain came. I have never really like cycling in the rainy weather, because of the brake pad system which has the risk of being ineffective when wet. This time, I am less worried, I am on the 3T Strada bike, which had costed me a bomb and it came with disc brake. After putting on my poncho, I was flapping happily and whilst being so distracted by the flapping caused by my ponchos, it took my mind away from the hills of Bukit Pelandok.

At PD checkpoint. When I’m still looking good.

The second checkpoint was at Pantai Morib, made it there in decent time, considering this is my inaugural audax ride. The last 50km was bearable even tho the sun was out and it was like 2pm. We take short stops as and when I need to but I was feeling happy throughout and certainly proud that I managed to complete it.

Not a medal but my scorecard. Proof of my crazy 200!

In 2020, I will push my cycling limit as far as I could and if I am committed to it, get my SR ( Super Randonneur ), put in one full marathon run and keeping my eye fixed on Kilimanjaro. Stay tuned for my next adventures folks. Living my life, making the best of what I have.
