Traveling has always been in my blood. After graduation from NUS, I worked as a regional executive in a chemicals company. My work involved extensive traveling and has provided opportunities for runs in faraway lands.
This piece is a list of all the places around the globe that I have run in. The list is a work in progress. This is part one of my list, which covers 2015 and 2014.
- Roma. Maratona di Roma, 2015 was my maiden overseas marathon. The cool weather makes for comfortable running but the cobbled streets of Rome shredded the calves and ankles. This was indeed the best way to see Rome.
- Bali. While on a holiday. I had run multiple times in Bali on surfing & partying holidays. In the most recent one, at Nusa Dua, I discovered Bebek Bengil a wonderful beach side restaurant specializing in Balinese duck dishes. We went there for dinner that night.
- Kuala Lumpur. I lived and worked in KL for three years, running almost daily. Favorite running spots include, TTDI park, Damansara Hill, FRIM, and the KLCC park. As senior management of an oil and gas service company, I headed a team that won second place in the team event of the 2014 edition of the Bursa Bull Charge.
- The area around Kellie’s Castle, near Ipoh. Living and working in KL, there were plenty of opportunities to drive to the outskirts and find places to run. Inevitably that also means exploring the local food. It was a public holiday in the middle of the week, celebrating the Selangor’s Sultan’s birthday that I drove out to Kellie’s Castle for a run in the fields and forests behind it. It was an interesting trail which is part of a rubber estate and a dairy farm, I think as there were cows. Am not sure if I was trespassing though. What added to the excitement was that it’s rumoured that Kellie’s Castle is haunted and it’s owner’s spirit has been seen pacing at night in the 2nd floor corridor.
